Eddy Current Testing (ECT) is a fast, non-invasive method ideal for inspecting non-ferrous tubing. By generating and analyzing electromagnetic fields, ECT detects surface and near-surface flaws, pitting, and wall thinning. It is widely used in condensers, heat exchangers, and air coolers, offering high-speed data acquisition and real-time analysis.

Remote Field Testing (RFT) is optimal for inspecting ferromagnetic tubing, such as carbon steel, where conventional eddy current methods may not be effective. Using low-frequency electromagnetic fields, RFT penetrates deeply to identify internal and external wall loss. This method provides balanced sensitivity on both sides of the tube wall, making it highly effective for in-service inspection of boiler tubes and feedwater heaters.

Near Field Testing (NFT) is a specialized approach for inspecting carbon steel fin-fan cooler tubes. By operating in the near-field zone of the probe coil, NFT detects localized corrosion, erosion, and pitting with high resolution. Its rapid scanning capability makes it particularly useful for large-volume inspections where both speed and accuracy are critical.

Magnetic Saturation Eddy Current (MSEC) is used to address the challenges of inspecting partially ferromagnetic tubing materials like 400-series stainless steel or duplex alloys. By applying magnetic saturation, MSEC enhances flaw detection and improves signal clarity in these complex materials. It’s ideal where standard eddy current or RFT techniques may fall short.

Internal Rotary Inspection System (IRIS) uses ultrasonic waves to measure the wall thickness of both ferrous and non-ferrous tubes. A rotating mirror directs the sound beam circumferentially, enabling precise 360-degree mapping. IRIS is highly accurate for detecting general and localized wall loss, though it requires clean tubes and water coupling. It is often used to validate results from ECT or RFT.
